About Me
My Story
My name is Matt Umphrey. I was born and raised in Caribou, Maine. I graduated from Caribou High School in 1991. I then attended the University of Maine at Presque Isle where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. Upon graduation, I started my teaching career at Sumner Memorial High School. I taught there for nine fulfilling years.I am now a Trojan!
Since coming to MDIHS I have obtained certification in Health Education and I am close to becoming a certified Adapted Physical Education teacher. I was elected to the Maine Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance Executive Board in the fall of 2007 as the Secondary P.E. Representative and again in November 2008. In November of 2009 I was elected Vice President Elect and will serve as Vice President in 2010-2011.
On June 2nd, 2010 my wife Rachel gave birth to a wonderful baby boy. We named him Garrett and he is the best thing that has ever happened to us.
I am currently working on integrating Polar Heart Rate Monitor technology into the Physical Education program. This technology also includes P.E. Manager software for authentic assessment in Physical Education and TriFit software which works with fitness testing and health assessment. Both programs work with the hand-held computers we are now using on a daily basis. For more information on these new programs either click on the Polar link on the right of this page or call me at 288-5011 ext. 425 and I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Say hi to Chloe!
