RtI Work
RtI = Response to Intervention
It is our intention to have all students succeed. In order to best meet the needs of students struggling or at risk, we must have protocols to guide intervention planning and progress monitoring. These protocols for monitoring students' "response to intervention" will allow us to plan more effectively and make changes to programming more efficiently.
2005-2006 School Year
Our work began as part of a DOE Grant for Hancock County. The professional development (Marsha Davidson) and early pilot of a "pre-referral" process helped to inform the Eligibility Task Force and the revised Special Education regulations.
2006-2007 School Year
Special Education and Title I teachers met several times to share literacy strategies and resources, identify challenge, design intervention and monitor progress.
2007-2008 School Year
Margarita Marnik and Candice Bray met with teams in each of the elementary schools to establish a process for using the RtI model for PreReferral, specifically for literacy intervention.
2008-2009 School Year (HOLD)
2009-2010 School Year (HOLD)
2010-2011 School Year
Using data generated by Pearson Inform, each school will meet with Kelley Sanborn to review the list of students Not Meeting or Partially Meeting excpectations in Reading and Math. The building Principal along with appropriate staff members will identify intervention and monitoring strategies for each student.
2011-2012 School Year
The administrative team is working together to develop a more systematic approach to identifying, intervening and monitoring students who are not or who are at risk of not meeting academic or behavioral standards.
Developing Protocols for Union 98 Schools (feedback encouraged)
In an effort to keep the process efficient and effective, these protocols are the recommended best practice procedure for use of RtI as a Pre-referral Process. It is our hope that this is a first step toward using the RtI model for all students needing academic or behavioral intervention.
