Downloading pictures into iphoto

Connect the cable to the camera ( look at the ends to see which end goes in the camera-- it?s usually a different shape).  Your camera may have a sign which say ?av outlet?

Hook the other end to the laptop. ( one of the usb ports)

Open iphoto.  click ?import? in the bottom middle of window ( or go up to file and select).  You can check the box in the bottom right corner if you wish to erase the pictures from the camera while downloading into iphoto.
click import ( bottom right) again and the process will start.

To place pictures that are on your computer in a different folder into iphoto, open the folder and select the photo ( to select more than one, hold down the apple key as you click on each photo).  drag the picture(s) into the open iphoto ilbrary.
You can arrange your pictures by roll, date, etc.

You can organize your library by creating a new album under file and naming it whatever  you wish-- block a, my vacation in alaska, professional development...

Itunes
adding Cd music to your itunes library or playlist is easy, too!

In itunes, go to advanced. Click cd track names,  choose which ones and click ok.
select import ( to library or a playlist which you create).

You can then use this music in a slideshow of your pictures!!!

Open mail
Under Mail - select Preferences

First icon is "General"
set mail check for desired time span

set new mail sound for receiving mail

Second icon is "Accounts"
Take a look at your account information

select "Special Mailboxes"
set parameters for sent mail, junk mail, and trash

select "Advanced"
to set up your POP to act like an IMAP uncheck remove copy from server (only if you view your mail at more than one computer) this is not necessary if you use your ibook only.

Third icon is "Junk Mail"
train FUTURE emails to be junk mail or not by setting the parameters you decide

Fourth and Fifth icons are "Fonts and Colors" and "Viewing"
this is where you can change the way messages are viewed and linked

Sixth icon is "Composing"
this is where you can set your composing parameters such as spell checking and quoting original message.

Seventh is "Signatures"
this is where a person could automatically assign a signature to their email - a good example of signature usage is George Fatula's signature.

Last is "Rules"
under this category, a person could dictate where certain emails go.  For instance you could make a rule that "if a message content or title contains viagra", delete it.  Or, if the message or content contains Math, put it in my Math folder.

To make a new folder on your email - click on a folder - for example the "in box" folder holding down the control key at the same time.  A message box comes up stating where the new folder will be and then asking you to name it.

to import addresses from another email account - open the address book in that particular email program on your pc.  Under the file command, select export - and export the address book to the desktop (or what would be really cool is if you have your thumb drive in your pc and export to that, or to the file server)

Then in Mail on the iBook select File and import mailboxes - (if your thumb drive is in or fileserver is connected).  Hopefully, this will work!
