Study Tips

Everyone learns differently:  We know that -

Some need to see it
Some need to hear it
Some need to do it,
Some need to touch it.

It follows therefore, if you copy over your notes and read it out loud as you are copying them, you may be seeing it, writing it, and hearing it.   Try it!

About Me

I'm a Special Education Teacher at Mount Desert Island High School.  Last year I worked at Pemetic Middle School.  I make sure my student's IEP, (Individualized Education Program), is being followed. I help regular education classroom teachers interpret the IEP to plan appropriate accomodations if they need help with that. At an IEPT meeting (IEP Team), I will be sure we cover all the important details we need to in order to  plan for the student.  The team is made up of parents, the student, ( if they want to attend and they are encouraged to), teachers, an administrator and me. Other people who have an interest in the student sometimes attend too. I, along with the rest of the team, discuss what we think is best for the student and it becomes part of a legal document that we follow for the following year.

There is a lot of paperwork in my job, but the best part is teaching kids and trying to make things better for them at school.

Professional Certification Achieved!!!
The Spring of 2007, The State of Maine has issued yours truly a Professional Certificate in k-8 Regular Education and 7-12 Special Education. This represents 3 years of course work, evaluations on my performance and observations of my work. To have one's certificate status go from whatever it is, Transition, Provisional or Conditional, to FINALLY Professsional is an accomplishment. It does not expire until 2012. Thank you to any students, colleagues, parents, family and friends who visit this web site and have been a support to me in any way during this process!!!
